Project Information
This work is a color research exercise in which I had to take inspiration from two tv shows, mostly by looking at the color schemes used in them, and then proceed to create an original concept with it.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to work with Wednesday, a beloved character from the "Addams Family" franchise. Originally thought of by American cartoonist Charles Addams, Wednesday is a cynical, aloof and incredibly smart character. She's had a couple of representations in the past, but I mostly focused on the most recent adaptation of her story simply titled "Wednesday" found on Netflix.

Next up, I had to think of another show to combine the colors with Wednesday. This part was certainly challenging and it took quite a bit of time.

Firstly, I chose "Squid Games".
Yet another Netflix series, "Squid Games" is about a series of survival "games" and they involve people who are in financial debt, they're considered the players of these games. The show is quite gruesome, but I always thought that the colors were interesting, in fact, they're very bright and "candy" coded. But after some thinking, I decided on a different approach.

I was recently inspired by cyberpunk and "hacker" culture, so I decided I wanted to see Wednesday in a role of a computer genius. During the design process, I incorporated baggy clothes that are common in streetwear, but kept the signature braids and pale skin. I thought of multiple accessories that complimented the overall idea too, such as a pair of headphones and a backpack.
And about the colors? Well, this is where "Ready Player One" comes in.

My second choice for the color research aspect was the sci-fi movie "Ready Player One" from 2018.
This movie is very much in the cyberpunk genre: it takes place in 2045 and it follows a protagonist that discovers a virtual reality game that allows for almost limitless actions. The colors are mostly dark, but it has a nice contrast with the technology the characters use, such as the different light screens, laser lights, neon signs, etc.

So, this felt like a more fitting color scheme for my idea, for sure! The colors used for Hacker Wednesday are entirely inspired by Ready Player One.
Now, feel free to look through the steps listed in the previous page.
